MALUKA AND THE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS
Character: MalukaLevel: 76
Location: Dragonblight (Northrend)
Mood: /panic, then /tired, then /panic, then /happy
I was running around Dragonblight like crazy, “speed-questing” to catch up to my guildmates. Poor Gatito, he was constantly unhappy from all the hard work. I kept feeding him chilled meat and apologies.
I had just arrived to Wintergarde Keep when I realized that I had an item in my bag that started a quest back at Wyrmrest Temple. Well, crap. /sigh. Undo.
I flew back and started a chain quest to kill 3 Manotaour elites. I killed the first one without a problem. Went after the second one and pwned him… except, he hit me with a DoT that killed me after he died :( Bastard.
A Shaman standing nearby asked if I wanted to be revived. Sure! How nice. We partied up with a friend of hers and I went along to help them kill those same two dudes again.
I still had to go kill the 3rd elite. The Shaman and her friend offered to help even though they had already killed that guy themselves. I /thanked them but said I wanted to try soloing it. I hunted him down, and he killed me two times. I hadn’t left the questing party the Shaman has invited me to, so I guess she and her friend saw I’d gotten killed... twice. Just as I revived near the elite again, they both showed up and helped me kill it.
Call it a game. Call it what you will… but it’s always nice to see random acts of kindness, in real life or elsewhere. Maybe it wasn’t so random in this case… but, they could have just not shown up. And they did.
So, show up. Especially for the people you care about. Show up.
/love,
Maluka
Geek Speak: FAIL
GEEK SPEAK: FAIL
After covering the meaning of FTW, I thought I should continue by defining it’s opposite: FAIL.
I found out about this one the hard way.
I leveled Maluka from Lvl 1-35 questing with Vlancer (a Druid). By Lvl 35, I was ready to venture out on my own. I learned how to kite and was testing out my chops around Desolace.
Basilisks… scorpions… two levels higher and they were dropping like flies. All of a sudden, I got a glimpse of an interesting bright blue shape amidst the dry, beige tones of the desert.
I ran towards the blue and discovered it was a level 38 Elite Giant.
Oh, I was foolish. Feeling confident in my brand new kiting abilities as a level 35.
I went after him thinking, “Dead giant FTW!”
The result of that battle, you ask?
FAIL
/ouch, my pride hurts... :P

PS: Epic Fail - A mistake of such monumental proportions that it requires its own term in order to sucessfully point out the unfathomable shortcomings of an individual or group. (Urban Dictionary)
WoW Diaries: A Rose By Any Other Name Would... be impossible to spell
A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME WOULD... Be impossible to spell
Maluka (Lvl 75 Night Elf Hunter) is my main character in World of Warcraft; however, I also have a Lvl 69 Human Priest.
I wanted to name the Priest Anya, after a song one of my best friends wrote (and the Gears of War character). But, alas, Anya was taken. So, I tried several spelling alternatives.
Annya… nope
Anyia… taken
Anyah… grrr
Anyya… looks weird, and unavailable anyway
Annyia... no, seriously?
The poor priest ended up being called Annyiah…. the most awkward spelling ever for a simple four-letter-name. Highly inconvenient when I want others to find me in game.
My buddy Vlancer (Lvl 75 Night Elf Druid) hasn’t been able to add me to his list of WoW friends because he hasn’t been able to spell the name properly.
(Or maybe he just doesn’t like me very much and is pretending… ;P)

There are certain games I love enough to play over and over. But, I have to say that after awhile… (shhh! I’m covering Gears of War’s ears) I get a little tired of them. In fact, bored.

Here’s what I do to keep the love alive:Game audio settings usually have three volume levels you can customize: Music, Sound Effects, and Dialog. When I play a game for the first time, I leave these levels untouched, occasionally bringing up the dialog to follow the storyline.
Second time around--once I’m familiar with the dialog/story and have already experienced the adrenaline rush from the awesome sound effects of dying--I lower the sound effects and dialog levels until they’re barely audible. Then, I crank up the music.
Oh, boy. It’s lovely. It alters my state of mind, therefore making the gameplay feel different.
The quality of music in videogames today rivals that of music in film. Don’t miss out on fully appreciating the sonic masterpieces behind the visual action and storylines. Pay attention to when the music starts and stops and how it intelligently adapts to your decisions. Notice how it can make you feel a little more nervous or a little more confident. It’s unbelievable.
Second time around, don’t just play the game. FEEL the game through music.
Mix it up!

“What happens if you fall?” I asked, looking over the edge of a Zeppelin in Northrend as we were flying over the ocean.Necromi laughed. “Well, if you survive, you would have to find a way to get back up here. So, don’t fall.”
I carefully moved Maluka a step back.
We were flying over pirate ships. The quest we were doing required we throw bombs at them from the Zeppelin. The bombs were somewhere in my bag… and my WoW bag looks a lot like my RL bag… cluttered and full of things I need to get rid of. Ugh… I should have stopped in town to sell stuff.
I was running out of time while Necromi was doing all the work, so as soon as I found the item, I rushed to throw the first bomb. Except… I moved too fast. Suddenly, I was falling over the edge of the Zeppelin and into the ocean.
“Eeeaaaarrghgghhh!!! I fell!!! I fell!!! Am I going to DIEEEE????” I panicked.
“Huh? You fell?” Necromi turned around and found himself alone on the Zeppelin. “Oh, my god, YOU FELL!!!!”
I hit the water and survived.
“I’m alive! I’m alive!!! What do I do? What do I doooooo?” I said, laughing at my own foolishness.
Necromi was laughing, too. “I can’t believe this. Hold on, I’m gonna jump, too.”
So, n00b follows pro… until n00b screws up… and then pro has to follow n00b off the side of a Zeppelin.
What can I say? I encourage extreme sports.
/haha,
Maluka Lvl 74 Extreme Night Elf Hunter n00b
